Katie’s practice focuses on the life sciences sector where her background in biomedical sciences gives her an excellent grounding in the technical aspects of the matters she litigates, particularly in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields. Katie has acted on matters relating to small molecules as well as biologics and on a broad range of disease areas including transplantation, oncology, immunology and general health.
Katie has considerable experience in global pharmaceutical life-cycle management projects. These matters involve managing patent litigation across multiple jurisdictions, advising on the broader litigation strategy as well as identifying potential cross-over into competition and regulatory issues. She regularly works alongside lawyers and patent attorneys in other jurisdictions in Europe, Asia and Africa.
Katie has been closely involved in proceedings before the Patents Court and Court of Appeal on a range of technologies. She has experience in obtaining preliminary injunctions in the pharmaceutical sector and with issues surrounding second medical use patents. Katie has also advised on matters relating to standard essential patents in the telecommunications industry and consideration of issues around FRAND licencing.
