Nadine Bleach

Senior Associate – Patent litigation

Nadine specialises in patent litigation and has advised on a range of complex disputes encompassing a variety of different subject matters. Nadine’s background in physics makes her particularly suited to work in the technology, telecommunications and engineering sectors. Her experience includes both patent infringement and validity work in a number of fields, ranging from consumer products to standard essential patents (SEPs), as well as FRAND and licence disputes.

Nadine also has a lot of experience coordinating multi-jurisdictional actions in terms of both technical and strategic coordination for national and UPC claims.

Some of Nadine’s work highlights include:

  • Philips v HTC/ASUS; Philips v TCL; Philips v Xiaomi; Philips v Oppo – coordinating and preparing technical SEP cases (telecoms) and FRAND cases for trial, defending jurisdiction challenges, obtaining AASI relief, and defending a claim to a licence defence.
  • Network System Technologies v Texas Instruments – acting for Texas Instruments in a patent revocation claim in the UK and coordinating on the parallel UPC action.
  • Prysmian v Sterlite – acting for Prysmian in a patent infringement and validity dispute relating to fibre optic cables. The action settled before trial.
  • Fisher & Paykel v ResMed – acting for ResMed in a patent infringement and validity action relating to medical devices, in particular, mechanical features of sleep apnoea masks.
  • Garmin v Philips – acting for Philips to defend a patent revocation claim and counterclaim for infringement in relation to GPS activity tracking devices.
  • Unwired Planet v Samsung – acting for Samsung in one of the technical SEP trials (telecoms).
  • Good Technology v MobileIron – acting for MobileIron to defend an infringement action and bring a revocation counterclaim in respect of two patents relating to computer security and data management. The action settled before trial.

Nadine also has in-house experience, having been on secondment to the in-house legal department of a prominent internet services company where she assisted on commercial and litigation matters.

Nadine has a good command of German and in 2016 spent three months on secondment at a leading IP law firm in Germany.
