Rebekka Thomas

Associate – Patent litigation

Rebekka has gained invaluable experience working on patent proceedings across the technology and life sciences sectors, including patent proceedings before the English Patents Court and Court of Appeal and multi-jurisdiction coordination projects.

Rebekka also regularly advises clients in relation to freedom to operate strategy across North America, Africa and Asia, forming relationships with local counsel across the world.

Some of Rebekka’s recent work includes:

  • Acting for a Swiss innovator company in UK patent litigation concerning the enforcement of patents relating to its blockbuster multiple sclerosis product, including the successful defence of an application for Arrow declaratory relief before the Court of Appeal and obtaining a positive decision in the previously untested area of pre-grant preliminary injunctive relief. Rebekka also acted as part of the team coordinating the clients’ European litigation strategy.
  • Acting for a UK biotechnology company in patent entitlement proceedings concerning the rights to the production of a novel, synthetic DNA vector known as dbDNA®.
  • Acting for a Canadian biotechnology company in patent infringement and invalidity proceedings concerning the production of microbial oils high in omega-3 fatty acids for human nutrition.

Prior to qualifying, Rebekka spent three months on secondment with a leading international advertising and technology company.

Rebekka sits on the executive committee for IPSoc, the society for junior IP lawyers. She is actively involved in the firm’s corporate responsibility initiatives and has held various roles on the charities and environmental committees.
