Harry advises on non-contentious intellectual property (IP) and technology matters across a wide range of sectors including pharmaceuticals, biotech, video gaming, film and other fields for which IP is of prime importance. He has a specific focus on transactions involving the development, transfer or exploitation of IP rights. He also regularly drafts settlement agreements.
Harry works with clients at the cutting edge of research, development and technology, leveraging his scientific background in chemistry, including a master’s degree in inorganic catalysis.
Harry also advises on the IP and technology aspects of corporate transactions including carve-outs, acquisitions, spin-outs and joint ventures.
Media and entertainment, particularly video games and film, forms another key focus of Harry’s practice. He has a keen interest in the video gaming industry and utilises decades of experience passionately pursuing a hobby in the sector to supplement his legal experience for his media and entertainment clients.
Some of Harry’s work highlights include:
- Advising a global pharmaceutical company on an exclusive in-licence agreement for worldwide rights to a drug candidate worth over $400m.
- Negotiating agreements governing the use and ownership of IP rights in video games and film, including a licence with a video game studio for the exploitation of IP rights within a virtual reality world.
- Acting for leading pharmaceutical companies on licences and collaborations with biotechnology or techbio companies.
- Drafting agreements on transactions involving the use of AI platforms in drug discovery and development pipeline, including a $200m+ collaboration for AI-assisted target validation.
- Supporting on the acquisitions of numerous biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and digital health companies, in particular advising on the IP aspects of the deals.
Harry recently spent six-months in-house at a leading medical research charity. He supported their technology transfer work for numerous world-leading research institutions, including drafting IP licences, research collaborations and evaluation agreements. In addition, Harry also supported the charity’s grant-funding activities and their procurement team.
Harry developed his experience in the media, entertainment and technology sector while working in the legal team of a global technology company. Harry assisted their video streaming platform with a range of takedown requests and worked on a $1bn litigation relating to their video gaming/ app store.
Last year, Harry also completed a secondment to a major pharmaceutical company where he advised on life sciences transactions including a high-value license and supply agreement involving controlled drugs. While seconded, Harry worked closely with their in-house legal, commercial, and brands teams.
