Bristows appoints Liz Cohen as new Joint Managing Partner and promotes two associates to its Partnership
Bristows LLP announces the appointment of Liz Cohen, as Joint Managing Partner of the firm.

Liz, a highly experienced patent litigation expert joined Bristows as a trainee in 1999 and was promoted to the partnership in 2008. She will work closely with Marek Petecki, the firm’s other Joint Managing Partner and a partner in its corporate team. Liz, who also co-heads the firm’s Life Sciences Practice, will continue to advise clients on patent litigation in the English Courts and litigation strategy for the European market, alongside her management role.
Liz succeeds the firm’s previous Joint Managing Partner, Theo Savvides, who tragically died in a cycling accident in France in July. At the time of Theo’s passing, Bristows commented that “his unshakable integrity and commitment to the firm and its values made him an obvious choice for the job [of joint managing partner], and he undertook it with the enthusiasm, wisdom and thoughtfulness that underpinned his great professional success as a lawyer”.
Bristows, a leading independent firm best known for its work with technology and IP-rich clients, has enjoyed a strong period of growth in recent years. Liz said, “I am very excited about this new challenge and feel privileged to be able to contribute to the development of the firm’s strategy and direction”.
Marek commented, “Liz is a highly respected lawyer and a fantastic ambassador for the firm. I’m really looking forward to working with her in her new role, at what is a very exciting time for the firm”.
Bristows is also delighted to announce that senior associates Dr Gregory Bacon and Gemma Barrett will be promoted to the partnership with effect from 1 November. Greg and Gemma both joined the firm as trainees and are experienced contentious IP specialists, with a focus on patent litigation. Marek Petecki commented, “We are really thrilled that Greg and Gemma will be joining our partnership. Their appointment further strengthens and deepens our market-leading Patent Litigation team, particularly on the Life Sciences side. On top of that, they are lovely colleagues and great representatives of our culture and way of doing things”.
