It is with the utmost sadness that we announce the untimely death of our partner and dear friend, Laura Anderson.
Laura was part of the fabric of Bristows for nearly twenty-five years, and during that time she was instrumental in transforming it into the modern law firm it is today. In recent years, Laura was at the forefront of the growth of the firm’s transactional life sciences practice, and was widely recognised and respected by her peers as one of the UK’s leading lawyers in that field.
Laura was a hugely talented lawyer, having been blessed with both an abundance of intelligence and a natural understanding of and love for people. She was renowned within the profession as being an absolute pleasure to work with. Through her warmth, humour and unfailing integrity she made a great many friends, on both sides of the table, in the course of the matters she worked on.
Laura was a passionate advocate for diversity, inclusion and new ways of working within the legal profession. As a longstanding member of the firm’s recruitment committee, she brought many talented trainees into the firm from a variety of backgrounds. Laura understood the realities of being a young lawyer with a family, and was a constant support and mentor to generations of younger lawyers who needed encouragement or help to get through a particular chapter in their careers. She always had time for people, despite her ever-expanding and busy practice, and her kindness and generosity enriched the lives of countless colleagues over the years.
Laura’s qualities are too many to list here, but we will particularly miss her gentle wit and honesty, with which she kept our feet on the ground; and her unwavering belief that by being kind to each other and working hard (without sacrificing one for the other), we would succeed at whatever we set out to do.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with Laura’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this great loss.
