Bristows successfully defends PI application brought in UPC Paris LD

23.01.2026

We are proud to report our successful defence for SOPHiA GENETICS of a PI application brought by Guardant Health Inc in the Paris Local Division of the UPC (23 January 2026; UPC_CFI_808/2025).

Not only did the Court and our team have to deal with 4 complex patents in the pioneering field of data driven medicine, but the short time frames prescribed in the UPC tested the breadth and depth of the legal and technical expertise within the Bristows Team, drawing on capabilities from our 60 strong group of European patent litigation experts.

Liz Cohen, Naoise Gaffney, Rachael Cartwright, Eden Winlow and Florence Plisner argued the case for Sophia, assisted by Rob Burrows, Hannah Rigby, Fariha Chowdhury and Megan Lockie. Further support was provided by New York based Bochner PLLC.

We will be publishing a more detailed summary, and analysis, in due course. In the meantime, you can download the full judgment.
