The UK’s consumer law regime

The Digital Markets, Competition
and Consumers Act 2024

The UK’s consumer law regime has undergone significant and far-reaching reforms in recent years with the arrival of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCC), which has important implications for all businesses offering products or services to consumers in the UK.

Under the regime, there are new consumer law offences as well as new enforcement powers, with many offences attracting significant penalties. This includes fines of up to 10% of a company’s worldwide turnover. There are offences relating to drip pricing practices and fake reviews, and from Spring 2027 there will also be new obligations for companies offering subscription contracts.

Businesses are increasingly focusing on compliance in this area to manage the risks – our experts have experience across these issues so can help ensure your business is prepared and compliant.
