Julian Hitchcock quoted by AFP on He Jiankuis sentence
Chinese state media reported on Monday that He Jiankui and his team, the scientists who claimed have enabled the birth of the world's first gene-edited babies, were condemned to three years in prison for illegal medical practice.

Julian Hitchcock spoke with an AFP journalist, commenting that while He’s actions “went well beyond what was ethically acceptable”, the lack of transparency while his case was ongoing was also concerning, and “news of the court’s treatment of He Jiankui and his associates therefore appears to be something of a relief,” while calling for China to publish the full details of the judgment.
