Current Awareness July 2016

01.08.2016

HMCTS has announced plans to make employment tribunal decisions available in a new online database, starting from Autumn 2016. Initially, this will be prospective only; no decisions have yet been reached in respect of the back catalogue of decisions.
The new illegal working offence created by s.34 Immigration Act 2016 came into force on 12 July 2016. This enables workers’ earnings to be seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. The existing offence of knowingly employment an illegal migrant has also been extended to cover the situation where an employer has reasonable cause to believe that a person is an illegal worker, and conviction on indictment for this offence was increased from 2 to 5 years.
