Janna Lawrence

My route into the legal profession has not followed a traditional path. A desire to stay out of the laboratory but stay in a profession that exposed me to science, led me into a job as a science journalist, writing for a medical journal.

I was often interviewing innovative professionals who had developed an exciting new therapy. But I found I had a strong desire to work in a more commercial environment where I’d get to put my problem-solving skills to use to help them to maximise the potential of their work. Law and particularly intellectual property, seemed like it offered the ideal blend of disciplines.

On beginning the application process I sought out firms with a strong emphasis on IP. With Bristows’ guaranteed seat in IP litigation, impressive clients and its friendly working environment, I knew I had found the right place. I was delighted when Bristows responded to my application by inviting me to interview and I was thrilled when I was eventually offered a training contract.

From the very outset, my experience with the firm has been nothing but positive. Bristows makes a huge effort to make you feel welcome, with regular social events both before and after joining the firm. The environment is intellectually rigorous but at the same time supportive. I look forward to all the new experiences that I will have during my training contract.
