Wales in London have invited one of the world’s leading economists to speak on the UK Economy with a special emphasis on Wales.
Douglas McWilliams is the founder and President of the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr), one of the UK’s leading specialist economics consultancies. Professor McWilliams has had a long career specialising in economic forecasting and analysis. He advises or has advised 25 of the FTSE companies, most of the UK’s top retailers, four out of the UK’s top ten legal firms and some of the leading firms of accountants, as well as being the economic adviser to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Douglas is best known for his work in forecasting, the economics of the IT and telecoms sectors and transport economics and for his knowledge of the Far East economies. He was the Mercers’ School Memorial Professor of Commerce at Gresham College from 2012 to 2014.

Prior to establishing CEBR in 1993 Doug McWilliams was Chief Economist at IBM UK and subsequently Chief Economic Adviser to the CBI.

Douglas will be speaking on “the Flat White Economy”, particularly in respect of Wales. The Flat White Economy is the description he coined for the title of his recent book which describes the interconnectedness and phenomenal growth, particularly in London, of the media, information and communications sectors including software publishing, computer programming, advertising and online shopping, data processing and television and film post-production.
