Partner Steve Smith has been interviewed by Global Competition Review about the Lebedev Holdings Limited and Another v Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport case, in which the Competition Appeal Tribunal made a declaration that the time-limit for the UK government to ask the Competition and Markets Authority to launch a full investigation about the sale of stakes of the Independent and the Evening Standard “expired on 1 July 2019.” You can read the full judgment here. 

Steve said that the decision makes it crystal clear that the secretary has one four-month period in which to both issue the PIIN and make a reference to the CMA.
