Competition partner Stephen Smith joins Bristows
Partner hire represents a further expansion for the group led by Pat Treacy
London, UK, 23/05/2016 – Stephen Smith joins today as a partner in the competition team. Steve, the current vice president of the Competition Section of the Law Society, and one of The Lawyer’s Hot 100 for 2016, joins Bristows after five years at RPC, where he founded and headed the competition and anti-trust practice.
Steve has a broad practice encompassing merger control, cartels and anti-trust investigations. He has advised numerous clients in the telecommunications and technology sectors and has also previously spent time at the communications regulator OFCOM.
Pat Treacy, Head of Competition at Bristows, commented: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Steve to the team.” “The growth of our competition practice over the last few years means that Steve will find a great group to work with and his sector focus and complementary skills will be a tremendous asset.”
The hire is part of a consistent period of growth for Bristows’ competition law practice, and follows the recent promotion of Sophie Lawrance to partner, Helen Hopson to senior associate, and the hiring of associates Aimee Brookes and Noel Watson-Doig.
Mark Watts, Joint Managing Partner of the firm, welcomed the new partner: “Bristows’ competition lawyers are people of high commercial awareness and sector knowledge, providing outstanding customer service, and Steve will certainly fit in well with this group.”
Steve becomes one of a total of 38 Bristows partners, across multiple practice areas. He commented: “I look forward to working with Bristows’ excellent clients from all over the world and to joining, and continuing to expand, the ambitious and high quality team now led by Pat and Sophie.”
