London, 27 June 2017 – Bristows celebrates winning the Competition Team of the Year award at The Lawyer Awards
The Competition practice, led by Pat Treacy, was recognised for successfully advising Google in the litigation against Streetmap, one of very few claims of abuse of dominance reaching final judgement.
Streetmap alleged that, by introducing a clickable Google Map on Google’s search engine results page, Google Maps gained an unfair advantage over Streetmap and other online mapping providers and that this was an abuse of Google’s (assumed) dominance in online search. The litigation saw the court grapple with the challenge presented by the “profound effect” that “the internet has had…in changing the way in which many traditional goods and services are offered to the public”.
