James has over a decade’s experience as a qualified employment solicitor; his practice includes clients in the life sciences, technology, financial services, and energy sectors.

James’ experience has included a broad exposure in providing corporate and advisory support to UK and international employers. Global transactions and projects require management and coordination of a variety of specialists across different time zones. Closer to home, UK-based advice covered an array of topics including Board-level disputes, site closures and supporting sensitive grievance processes.

His previous experience working for a “Big Four” audit firm led to a wider experience of full professional services, including working with tax specialists to deliver comprehensive advice relating to all aspects of fair pay programmes (such as equal pay and holiday pay). He also spent time on secondment as a TUPE SME to a subsidiary entity of the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, supporting a wider IT outsourcing exercise.

James’ advisory and corporate support to employers is bolstered by a litigation practice focussed on claims arising in the Employment Tribunal. This includes drafting defence documents, preparing clients for Tribunal appearances and supporting alternative dispute resolution processes.

Some of James’ prior experience includes:

• Secondment to the in-house legal team of a global provider of outsourced IT services.
• Experience within the Employee Relations team within the UK’s Central Bank.
• Advising on the enforceability of post-termination restrictions for senior financial services roles.
• Projects requiring post-merger integration support for workforces
• Supporting complex first- and second-generation outsourcing programmes

James also held a commission in the British Army Reserves, requiring management responsibility for career planning, progression and development for up to 60 reservists.
