Cassie joined Bristows as an associate in the patent litigation team in January 2024, where she works on matters in both the technology and life sciences sectors. She has enjoyed a diverse range of UK litigation experience since joining Bristows, spanning from acting in SEP/FRAND litigation on behalf of a multinational electronics company, to defending a client in a patent litigation dispute concerning omega-3 microbial oils.

Cassie is a keen litigator and really enjoys working on cases with clients, and technologies, in both the life sciences and tech sectors.

Cassie’s work on UK SEP/FRAND litigation to date has had a comparable licensing focus, and she has been involved in both licensing expert and factual evidence aspects of this litigation. Cassie’s work on a recent UK life sciences case has focused on refuting allegations of patent infringement and the respective counterclaims for patent invalidity.

As well as UK litigation, Cassie also works on a number of global coordination projects for pharmaceutical companies, which has included gaining experience in defending interim injunction applications.

Cassie also has a keen interest in the patent litigation landscape in other jurisdictions, including the UPC, and regularly drafts weekly update articles for Bristows’ Irides programme, and has contributed to issue 2 of the UPC PI annual.

She has acted for clients spanning across a range of sectors, including telecommunications, aerospace and travel. Some of Cassie’s work highlights include:

• Panasonic v Xiaomi and OPPO – advising Panasonic in proceedings relating to LTE SEPs, FRAND, patent infringement and validity.
• DSM v Mara Renewables & Algal Omega 3 – Patents Court litigation concerning omega-3 microbial oils, and processes for their manufacture.

Prior to joining Bristows, Cassie trained and qualified at a leading international law firm where she worked on matters across a broad range of intellectual property rights, and has experience in copyright, trade marks and patents.

During her training contract, Cassie also gained experience in a wide range of other practice areas, including commercial litigation.

Cassie is passionate about inclusion and sustainability initiatives, and is also a member of the firms Charities Committee, and helps out with the firm’s graduate recruitment initiatives.
