William White's headshot

William is an associate specialising in technology matters. He works on the full range of IT and commercial transactions, including IT outsourcing, digital transformation, BPO, SaaS and software licensing deals. He also regularly advises on regulatory and compliance matters relating to the use and deployment of AI, open source, cyber resilience and data protection, particularly on issues that require in-depth technical knowledge.

William started his career as a technology consultant at IBM, where he designed solutions for IT outsourcing and implementation projects. He has also previously worked in software development and is an occasional programmer. This background allows William to understand clients’ transactions and products on both a commercial and a technical level, and to deliver pragmatic advice for both suppliers and customers.

He was recently seconded to the legal team at Google DeepMind and during his training contract spent time in-house at Capgemini. William also serves on the Cloud Group committee of the Society for Computers and Law.

William’s recent experience includes:

  • Acting for a major insurance firm on a series of regulated outsourcing projects (all IT towers and BPO) with total contract value of ~£200m;
  • Advising one of the key developers of open source operating systems on various regulatory and open source matters, including its deployment of generative AI coding assistants and compliance with the Cyber Resilience Act and NIS2;
  • Counselling a US software vendor on the application of the Cyber Resilience Act to its full range of on premises and SaaS products;
  • Advising a global automotive component manufacturer on multiple first-generation outsourcing transactions in the IT and BPO space;
  • Negotiating on behalf of a flag-carrying international airline in various matters including a data centre migration and the procurement of a business-critical technology platform;
  • Assisting one of the world’s largest IT services companies in the negotiation of its biggest private sector BPO deal in recent times;
