Selina Badiani

Trainee Solicitor

I chose Bristows as I have always been interested in patents, particularly relating to drugs as my favourite module of my degree was Pharmacology. I began looking into firms that had practice areas in IP and Bristows’ excellent reputation in both IP litigation and the life sciences sector seemed perfect. I was also looking for a law firm that was collaborative rather than competitive. I experienced the friendliness of the firm first-hand at the Winter Workshop and this is still the case in my first weeks of working at Bristows. The small trainee intake contributes to this supportive environment as there are so many partners, associates and support staff on hand to answer all your questions, no matter how ridiculous they are! I also love how diverse the firm is – there are people from all academic backgrounds, not just science, which makes things really interesting.

Even before our training contract began, I felt like I knew a lot of people in the firm as we had attended social events through our GDL and LPC years. Our intake has also become a really close group of friends which is great whenever anyone has a problem – the other trainees are always so quick to offer help! In my first few weeks, I have been in the Real Estate team where I have already been given a lot of responsibility and learnt a lot. I have also had the chance to learn about other practice areas and some of the amazing high-profile clients we work for. I have been made to feel so welcome and I feel very lucky to have a training contract in such a friendly, diverse and cutting-edge firm.
