James is a technology lawyer specialising in data protection, IT and intellectual property matters. His Masters degree in Information Systems Engineering provides a solid base for understanding technology related issues. James’s secondments at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have also given him valuable in-house experience.

James has extensive knowledge of UK and European data protection and privacy law. He has advised an array of companies in different industry sectors on matters involving the processing of personal data, including product development, US discovery, international data transfers, multi-layered privacy statements and anonymisation of clinical data. Many of these projects have required James to co-ordinate and consolidate data privacy advice from other jurisdictions. In addition, James has advised on high profile and complex ICO investigation and enforcement actions and assisted with data protection focused litigation.

As an experienced associate in our commercial IP and IT practices, James has worked on numerous IP and IT transactions particularly in the TMT and life sciences sectors. This work has included drafting and negotiating pharmaceutical patent licence, logistics, IT services, outsourcing and general framework agreements, and advising on the IP, IT and data protection aspects of corporate transactions. He has also provided advice on non-transactional matters, including contract interpretation, e-commerce and export control.
